Our
Chilli Patch business started a long time ago when a friend said to us
that no one in the Nursery Industry was growing Chilli plants
commercially. So he suggested that we have a go and that’s how our
business got under way and also got us involved in the Queensland Herb
Society Inc.
We were both working full time. We decided to try and grow some chillies
in terracotta pots and our first market was Herb Awareness in 1999. We
attend the markets weekly and try to do a few bigger markets throughout
the year. One of them is Herb Awareness. We realised at that show there
were a lot of people interested in growing Chillies. So we kept going
and both of us worked full time as well as attending a monthly market in
Queens Park Toowoomba for several years. We don’t attend this one
anymore.
Our business has grown and changed over the years as we now grow
chillies, culinary herbs and salad greens. We have a huge range of
packaged spices that we can mail order to you.
Our two sons Cooper (8) and Bailey (6) are very much involved in our
business and get quite cranky if we don’t let them help us. Cooper grows
Sunflowers for the markets and Bailey is a great help with watering our
stock.
